Upset waters are lashing the ship's decks and threatening to wash crew, cannons and barrels of brandy overboard. Soon we will sink the Swede, or the Swede will sink us! The scenes of heroism and heartbreak at sea are countless in Danish art. They are stories from the past and present, but also the history of the sea as a trading place. An element of dreams that sends proud men to their deaths and makes others rich in just a moment. Here the Danes, and not least the people of Funen, triumphed, creating incomparable images in art and lines of connection to the rest of the world.
